Its locking knob enables the two arms to be fixed in any separation, and is the basis for its ability to transfer a position to or from a chart quickly. Its many other features include:

• Compact size to fit modern small chart tables, and in pocket.
• Transfer GPS positions quickly and accurately to any chart.
• Two sets of finger holes enable finger tips to act as friction pads on chart.
• Opening width is same as for standard rules.
• Millimeter scale makes it easy to transfer distances.
• Graduations allow use as a protractor.
