STARSHIP EARTH
Spherical Concepts
This beautiful 16", handmade, three-dimensional star atlas helps you find
and identify celestial objects from anywhere on Earth, at any hour of the day
or night, and on any date of the year. Its spherical design makes determining
the relative position of bodies easier than using traditional two dimensional
charts or a starfinder. At the center is a 5" diameter Earth globe connected
to a rotator knob for aligning the day of choice. The Earth is surrounded by
an adjustable horizon ring that can be rotated 360° to establish the horizon
level, while a rotating arm lets you align the position of the sun. Surrounding
the inner components is a clear 16" diameter sphere marked with stars,
deep sky objects, constellation diagrams, and other celestial objects observable
from Earth. An access port allows you to move the horizon ring. By
looking through the exterior of the clear globe, you can see which objects
are visible from your vantage point, and exactly how and where they appear
in the night sky. Stars are identified by name, Greek letter, brightness, and
distance from the Earth in light years. The star atlas is carefully crafted from
hand-blown, museum-quality acrylic that is painstakingly screen-printed
by hand on the inside of the globe for long-lasting protection, and beauty.
Includes a sculptured acrylic table-top stand and a 36 page instruction book
featuring constellation stories, deep sky objects and more, written by the
late, internationally renowned astronomy expert George Lovi. SW 12 lbs.
