GPS 72 / 76 and GPSMAP 76 / 76S Common Features
All of these units have been
designed from the ground up by Garmin to be the best marine specific handheld
units available. Many of the features of these units is the same, such as: a
built-in quadrifilar antenna for superior reception, high resolution (except
for GPS 72) back-lit displays, and increased internal memory. They provide large
number and graphic navigation screens, all easily accessible through Garmin's
user friendly operating system. They are also WAAS capable. Mariners encountering
heavy fog on a trip will appreciate the WAAS accuracy in navigating their way
home. Audible alarms are available for indicating anchor drag, off-course, arrival,
and proximity to a waypoint. Their trip computers provide odometer, stopped
time, moving average, overall average, total time, max speed and more. They
all have automatic track logs and celestial tables for best time to hunt and
fish, and sun and moon rise and set times. U.S. tide data is included in memory.
Their cases are completely waterproof, and will float. The units come with a
User's Manual and Quick Start Guide. Weight of each unit is 7.6 ounces with
batteries (not included). The GPS 76, MAP 76, and MAP 76S come with a PC Interface

GPSMAP 76 and GPSMAP76S
 The GPSMAP 76 and GPSMAP 76S are WAAS capable and
combine detailed permanent basemaps of North and South America (see "About Basemaps")
with a 12 channel receiver. It has easy-to-mark waypoints, GOTO function, and
Man Overboard (MOB). The distance measuring, compass heading, and speed screen
alone makes it a boone for any moving vessel. The GPSMAP 76S has all the features
of the GPSMAP 76 but adds extra sensors. These are a barometric altimeter and
an electronic compass which tells which way the unit is pointed even when not
moving!
If you want the smallest street level detail for worldwide cities and
towns, MapSource CDs are available in conjunction with your PC to upload to
the GPS. Connect the it to your PC with the included PC Cable, press a button
to upload, and you're done!

You can create routes and waypoints by moving a
cursor to any point, and clicking. Lat/ Longs are read instantly by clicking
the cursor. There are an enormous number of data fields at your disposal. Both
units come with a wrist strap, and the other items mentioned on the facing page.
They are compatible with all MapSource CDs listed in this catalog. See antenna
